Renata Mitko Art

I am a contemporary abstract artist, translating complex emotions and rich life experiences onto canvas. My artistic journey originally began working as a make-up artist on photo-shootings, but when the pandemic hit in 2020, I transitioned to fine art, swapping faces for canvases, and painting became a vital form of personal expression, healing, and survival. As cliché as it may sound art means the world to me and I cannot imagine my everyday life without it.

I was born and raised in Slovakia and moved to the UK in 2011 with my husband. We spent the following years travelling together, gaining a deep insight into different cultures through our adventures across Europe. Exploring and experiencing the world in this way greatly enriched my own inner world, allowing me to implement depth of thought within my art. After our travels we returned to the UK and settled in Market Harborough, where we finally found home with our family.

My passion and practice as an artist stems from my healing journey and is a part of my self-growth. I discovered creating art is deeply therapeutic and can also sometimes offer emotional escape from a harsh reality. It allows me to explore and communicate deep inner work inspired by thoughts, emotions, past experiences, as well as nature, colours, music and spirituality. Abstract art challenges the boundary between conscious thought and the unconscious mind, offering countless possibilities and interpretations, inviting the viewer to find their own unique perspective within my work.

My artistic process is an intuitive complex journey, working primarily in mixed media and acrylic paint to build layers and create texture. The tactile exploration of layers, unique mark-marking and subtractive techniques within my work defines my style. My favourite colour palette mostly consists of various shades of blues and greens, with accents of pinks, purples, vibrant yellows and oranges, which greatly compliment the main palette, evoking a sense of tranquillity, introspection and harmony, introducing calmness and serenity into any space.
